We Will Remember Corporal Gonthier
63
In honour of our fallen Canadian
They shall grow not old, as we who are left grow old
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn
At the going down of the sun, and in the morning
We will remember them
In memory of our fallen Canadian:
Corporal Etienne Gonthier - Afghanistan January 23, 2008
Always Caring - Always Canadian - Never Defeated

Even though I prayed hard, once again those of us on the Highway of Heroes will be going to the bridges. A young Canadian soldier based in Valcartier, Quebec and serving in Kandahar province in Afghanistan has been killed.
He was killed and two other Canadians were injured while clearing a road of IEDs (improvised explosive devices). Earlier this week, a family of five Afghans were killed by the IEDs Sapper Gonthier and his comrades were clearing. He was a volunteer in service to his country. May he rest in peace.
The Toronto Star reports Sapper Gonthier was a 21 year old Combat Engineer born in Quebec City.
UPDATE: Sapper Gonthier had not received notice that he'd been promoted to corporal at the time of his death. He is being returned to Canada as Corporal Gonthier. I've changed the title and the remembrance part of this hub to reflect his proper rank.
Corporal Gonthier returns to Canada on Sunday. The plane carrying his remains will land at CFB Trenton at 2pm and should be enroute to Toronto by about 2:30pm.
